Fewer visitors at iaa than two years ago
The german association of the automotive industry (VDA), which organizes the IAA, expects around 900,000 visitors at the leading trade show, which runs until sunday, as president matthias wissmann explained. At the previous event in 2011, 928,000 people had made their way to the frankfurt trade show grounds. On the 65. 1100 exhibitors from 35 countries showcased their products at the IAA.
The public’s keen interest in electromobility has encouraged the industry to move forward, wissmann said. He expects sales of electric vehicles to ramp up in the coming year. By the end of 2014, there would be a few 10,000 e-cars on the german market, especially since german manufacturers would have 16 series-produced e-models on offer by then.
For the european market as a whole, the VDA expects a slow recovery, said wissmann. However, it would take a long time before the record sales figures of 14 million units could be achieved again.
The second central theme of the IAA was the digital revolution in and around the car, said wissmann. The industry is driving this issue forward, so that there is also an opportunity in terms of industrial policy to bring parts of the IT industry back to germany.
